High Value Document Authentication

Pagemark Technology, Inc. “Pelta™” is a patent pending technology that dramatically changes the way high-value documents are proved to be authentic.

Built upon the increasingly popular 2D barcode, Pelta uses public domain barcodes (ISO/IEC 18004) as a simple yet powerful way to ensure important documents such as vital records, certificates of origins, id badges, travel documents, registration documents, and packaging material are authentic.

The system includes the tools to generate 2D barcodes and the software that reads the barcodes.

What makes Pelta barcodes unique is a hidden layer that is secretly encoded on top of a standard “Quick Response” Barcode which includes encrypted covert information. The 2D barcodes generated by Pelta appears in every way like a standard machine readable 2D barcodes

Placing a Pelta barcode on a high-value document or card provides a machine readable way to uniquely identify the document or card. Further, the encrypted covert message can be tied to other visible information on the document providing authenticity validation.

It is impossible for a counterfeiter to create the hidden information within the barcode. In fact, the barcode appears in every way as a standard 2D barcode.

Reading Pelta Barcodes

Pelta Barcodes contain standard messages readable by any Quick Read Barcode reader. However, the covert information can only be read by Pagemark proprietary algorithm. This algorithm is
deployed in software running on ubiquitous smart phones, web cameras, or desktop scanners.

Smart Phone as the Reader

Smart phones are ubiquitous today and provide a powerful platform for reading Pelta barcodes. Pagemark supplies a reader application capable reading both overt and covert messages within the Pelta barcodes. Customers using the Pelta systems are given customer specific modules which uniquely link reader software running on a smart phone to the barcode generation.
